Interlibrary Loan FAQ

All faculty, staff and students of Polytechnic Institute of NYU may use Interlibrary Loan (also known as document delivery) to obtain materials not available at Dibner Library.

How do I request materials not available at Dibner Library?

Fill out the online request form completely.

You can also take advantage of the interlibrary loan feature in WorldCat. Search many libraries at once and easily request items not available at Dibner Library  by clicking the Request this Item Now link (requires login when off campus).

Can I request a book that is on Course Reserve?

No, interlibrary loan can only be used for books that the library does not own or are missing.

What is the turnaround time?

Requests for journal articles generally take one-three days to fill, but may take up to two weeks. Books may take three weeks to arrive.

Is there a fee for this service?

No, it is free of charge for the NYU-Poly community.

How do I retrieve the materials?

You will be notified by e-mail when the item has been received.

  • If the item is available electronically, it will be emailed to you.
  • Students must pick up print materials at the service desk.
  • Faculty and staff can have articles delivered to their office via interoffice mail.
  • Patrons from campuses in Long Island, Westchester, and Manhattan can have articles faxed or items mailed to them at no extra charge.
For how long can I borrow the materials?
